HISTORY
Northern Platforms & Stagings Ltd. was formed by John Johnston in September 1984 with an initial work-force of three.Due to the continued expansion of the company, Steven Buchan stepped up in 1998 and accepted Directorship.
AT PRESENT
Northern Platforms now has over 30 core personnel with considerable scaffolding expertise. Our main premises at Wilson Street in Peterhead has recently undergone significant changes. In order to increase efficiency and organisation, our yard now proudly boasts a large new storage shed, allowing us to be prepared for any kind of eventuality!Our new training and meeting facilities adjacent to our Office provides us with the flexibility to hold regular in house training sessions and Safety meetings. The next project is to join the Main Office to the Training Room and building a new Reception Area in the middle! Watch this space!….
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF RECENT/ONGOING PROJECTS
Aberdeenshire Council- Ongoing contract involving maintenance of various council properties.
Aberdeen University
- Ongoing refurbishment and maintenance of some of the oldest buildings in Scotland.
Peterhead Power Station
– Ongoing maintenance project with 12 to 15 employees.
- A 4-month contract with an average of 20 employees involved with the demolition and removal of gas turbines.
Mansell
– The construction of a new Office Block for Hunting Oil Fields in Badentoy, an approx duration of 11 months.
National Grid
– Ongoing maintenance saffolding at St Fergus Gas Plant
Stewart Milne
– Various projects and a supply of daywork scaffolders
Chap
– Recently provided scaffolding service for Trump International.
EMPLOYEE HEALTH & SAFETY AWARENESS / TRAINING
Being registered with the C.I.S.R.S allows us to incorporate relevant industry changes as they happen including legislation and technical and safety advancement. All employees hold current C.I.S.R.S cards and must pass Health & Safety tests regularly in order to be fully aware of current H&S Issues.After an initial Safety Induction that includes basic H&S Training, the issue of the Company Handbook containing all policies and procedures and the issue of the NASC User Guide, all employees become part of a yearly training plan so that we have a multi-skilled workforce with all certificates in place. Including:
- - Confined Space Vessel Entry Procedures
- - Asbestos Awareness
- - Counter Balance Forklift Truck
- - Fall Arrest Suspension and Rescue Equipment
- - Digital Tachograph Training
- - First Aid
- - Etc…
We use various Training Providers (on- and off site) as well as doing in-house Training Sessions and Tool Box talks that take place in our Training and Meeting Room facilities.
